  • As a Reading Facilitator Intern, you’ll assist with teaching children to read using Jolly Phonics and guided reading strategies, help lead art and craft activities, coordinate dance, public speaking and theatre sessions and support daily routines. You’ll write weekly progress reports and contribute to creating a fun, nurturing learning environment. 

  • This is a great opportunity if you’re passionate about education, especially literacy, love working with children, and want to build practical teaching skills.

    This is a paid internship. Earn more by teaching dance, public speaking and/or acting.

  • University students, recent high school graduates, preschool and early years teachers looking to earn a little extra during the school break are encouraged to apply.

    Dates: 7 July - 29 August

    When: Monday to Friday

    Locations: Roman Ridge and McCarthy Hill (choose what works for you)

Reading facilitator (McCarthy Hill)

Reading facilitators are essential to the success of our literacy programme.

In this role you will:

  • Teach reading using Jolly Phonics or guided reading (with Jolly Phonics where needed)
  • Report on progress, including weekly and end-of-term reports for each reader in your group
  • Lead art and craft activities to promote creativity and working with the hands
  • Provide childcare and create a nurturing environment
  • Have fun!

Work schedule: Saturdays, 9am to 3pm

General Intern

Interns play a vital role in keeping our literacy centre and bookshop running smoothly! Your tasks may vary, giving you hands-on experience in different areas.

You might:

  1. Provide operational support, assisting with daily tasks and centre activities
  2. Support learning programmes, helping children with reading and literacy activities
  3. Assist in bookshop retail, at pop up fairs and events
  4. Help with order fulfilment, packaging and organising book deliveries
  5. Jump into anything and everything - no two days are the same!
